Judith de los Santos, a promising pop/rock singer &
songwriter based in Los Angeles, CA, has won the January SingerUniverse “Best
Vocalist Of The Month” Competition, for her performance of her song, “I Can’t

“I Can’t Make it Rain” is a graceful, acoustic/pop ballad,
and it’s an excellent showcase for De los Santos’ rich, expressive vocals. Her
vocals are reminiscent of Paula Cole’s style, with a bit of the soulful flavor
of Tracy Chapman. De los Santos adeptly produced this recording, with the help
of her musician friends at the Berklee College Of Music (in Boston, MA), where
she recently graduated with a dual major in Music Production & Engineering
and Film Scoring.
De Los Santos was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, and
where she grew up in a close-knit, musical environment. Her mother is a
musician, who plays classical and jazz/ragtime. When she was 8, De los Santos
began playing piano, and in her teens, she learned to play guitar (including
electric guitar) and started writing songs. Some of her early influences were
Billy Joel and the Beatles, and later on she was inspired by Dolores O’Riordan
of the Cranberries, and Nirvana.
When she was a high school senior, De los Santos entered a
renowned music competition called the Festival De La Canciones, and she won her
regional event (for the state of Nuevo Leon). Winning this competition helped
confirm her musical talent, which led to her applying and being accepted to the
Berklee College Of Music. “At Berklee, I originally thought of myself as a writer/producer,”
she explained. “I studied production, engineering, and film scoring, and I
focused on my writing. But when I would play my songs for people, they would
tell me how much they liked my singing.”

During her final semester at Berklee (early in 2005), she
formed a band with some of her Berklee schoolmates, and she recorded the 10
songs for her debut CD, All Of The Above. The album is a varied
collection, consisting of heavier rock cuts, in addition to her more
acoustic/AC songs. De los Santos plays piano, guitar, plus lead and background
vocals.
Upon graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her
music career. “I’ve been playing live in L.A. as a duo (with keyboardist Jane
Lamb), and I’m starting to put a full band together. I’m also looking to
co-write with other people. I’ve also done some film scoring, mostly on indie
film projects.”
With her emergence as a singer and artist, plus her skills
as a writer/producer/composer, De los Santos has the versatility to potentially succeed
either as a performer, or in a more behind-the-scenes, musician/writer
capacity.
