Lauren Echo Named April “Best Vocalist Of The Month” With Her Song “Some Days”
By Dale Kawashima
Lauren Echo, a talented singer & songwriter based in New
York City, has won the April SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist Of The Month”
Competition, for her performance of her song “Some Days” (which was co-written
by David K.). This is one of 13 cuts included on her second CD Still,
which she has released independently.
Lauren Echo
“Some Days” is an intimate, bluesy ballad, which is
reminiscent of Melissa Etheridge’s soulful style. The recording provides a
solid showcase for Echo’s strong, passionate vocals. Her vocal performance
starts out softly, with understated vocals accompanied only by her piano
playing. Then the song gradually builds into powerful rock cut, with Echo singing
adeptly throughout. “Some Days” was produced by Benjy King, who also played
many of the instruments on this recording. King is known for having been the
musical director of Lesley Gore (from 1981-’96), and producing many artists.
Echo was born and raised in New York City, where she began
singing and performing at a young age. In fact, she became a successful, child
jingle singer by age 10. Echo ended up singing on hundreds of jingles, and she
also sang on movie soundtracks and performed in musical theater. For high
school, she attended the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan, which is
a noted school for the arts. Two of her musical influences were Bonnie Raitt
and jazz singer, Nancy Wilson.
Following high school and some college, Echo focused on
developing her artist career and her songwriting. She learned how to play piano
and guitar, and she started performing in local clubs. In 2000, she released
her first CD, Reflection From A Surface, and she toured up and down the
East Coast as a solo artist. Then in 2004, she wrote and recorded the songs for
her second album, Still.

Still has been a success, providing Echo with a
quality CD to further establish her artist career. Some of the songs have
received college radio airplay, and some songs have sold fairly well via digital distribution. In
addition, Echo has put together a new trio, including drummer Eran Asias and
bassist Rich Chapple. The trio regularly plays the Bitter End and Iridium clubs
in NYC. Echo also performs solo shows in North Carolina, where she has a
following.
Currently, Echo is writing songs for her next CD, and she is
working on a variety of music-related projects. “I am committed to building a
long-term career in all aspects of music – as a singer, songwriter and
performer. I’m working on getting a publishing deal;I’m interested in writing for other artists’ projects, in
addition to my own albums. I’m also looking for a label deal.”
