Melissa Goyette Named July “Best Vocalist Of The Month” With Her Song “If This Is All There Is”
By Dale Kawashima
Melissa Goyette, a promising pop/AC singer & writer
based in Montreal, QC, Canada, has won the July SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist
Of The Month” Competition, for her performance of her song “If This Is All
There Is” (co-written by Greg Critchley). Goyette is currently writing and
recording the songs for her debut CD, which she will be releasing independently
early next year.

“If This Is All There Is” is a melodic, appealing pop/AC
ballad, which provides a good showcase for Goyette’s expressive, heartfelt
vocals. The song is also demonstrates her skills as a pop melody writer &
lyricist. This recording was adeptly produced by Greg Critchley, a Los
Angeles-based writer/producer who has collaborated with such prominent
songwriters such Bridget Benenate, Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil. Critchley
played all the tracks on this cut.
Goyette was born in St-Jerome, Quebec, which is a suburb of
Montreal, and she has always lived in the area. She started singing at a young
age, and when she was 15, she began pursuing music seriously. Goyette entered
talent contests, and she was named a Top 10 finalist in the Canadian Popstars
competition at age 17. In addition, she won the Montreal Idol competition in
2005.
Her success in Popstars led to her meeting music pros
such as Greg Critchley. “Through Popstars I met Greg,” said Boyette. “I
had the opportunity to co-write with Greg when I came to Los Angeles to audition
for Capitol Records. We wrote two songs, one which was ‘If This Is All There
Is.’ We then recorded both songs at his studio.”

In addition to her work with Critchley, Goyette is
collaborating with other notable songwriters for her album project. She is
currently writing with Scott Trippayne, who co-wrote this year’s American
Idol theme song, “This Is My Now,” sung by winner Jordin Sparks. Goyette is
also collaborating with Danielle McKee, who has written songs for MTV shows The
Hills and Laguna Beach.
“I’m in the studio every week writing new songs, and it’s
been going well,” said Goyette. “I will be releasing my album early next year.
Then I will be putting together a band, and touring. I’m really looking forward
to playing all my new songs live.” In the meantime, in addition to her work in
the studio, Goyette is currently shopping a three-song EP to record labels, and
she has been getting a good response.
