Ayme Sanchez Wins June SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist Of The
Month” Competition
By Dale Kawashima
Ayme Sanchez, a talented singer & songwriter based in
Fort Lauderdale, FL (near Miami), has won the June SingerUniverse “Best
Vocalist Of The Month” Competition, for her performance of her song “Leave Me
Alone”. Sanchez is a successful, pro singer who does voiceover studio work, and
performs live with her band the Kindreds. She is also preparing to record her
new songs for her next, album project.

“Leave Me Alone” is a high energy, modern rock/pop cut,
which is reminiscent of Alanis Morissette’s aggressive, edgy style. It’s an
excellent showcase for Sanchez’s strong, assertive vocal performance. “Leave Me
Alone” was co-written and skillfully produced by Tom Cangemi, who has worked
with Mandy Moore, LFO and Willa Ford, and produced music for top commercials.
Sanchez was born and raised in Miami, and she began singing
and performing in musical theatre at a young age. For high school, she attended
the respected New World School of the Arts, where she studied voice, acting and
dance. “I focused on my voice, singing in many different styles, including
opera and pop,” said Sanchez. “I was influenced by a wide variety of artists and music,
such as Jewel, Sade, Sheryl Crow, and also Spanish music."
After high school, Sanchez attended Florida State University
(in Tallahassee) for two years, before leaving to focus fulltime on her music
career. She moved back to Miami, started to write songs and collaborate,
plus get work as a session singer. Notably in 2000, she entered a competition
for singers, hosted by Miami's hit music station Y-100. Sanchez won the competition over
1,000 other singers, and performed at the station’s annual Wing Ding Concert in
front of 15,000 people. She also won the grand prize, which was a two-song demo
contract with hit producer Emilio Estefan at his Crescent Moon Studios. Sanchez
recalled, “It was a great experience winning the contest, performing before a
huge crowd, and getting to work with Emilio and his creative staff.”

Then in 2002, Sanchez met with writer/producer Tom Cangemi in New York,
and they decided to collaborate on three songs, including “Leave Me Alone” and
“Find Me” (which was also named one of this month’s Top Five vocal performances).
“’Leave Me Alone’ was my ‘angry’ song,” explained Sanchez. “It was about trying
to leave a relationship, which in my mind was already over, but that the other
person didn’t want to leave. It was cathartic for me to write this song.”
Currently, Sanchez has completed writing several new songs,
which she is looking forward to recording. “I’m excited about the new material
I’ve written,” said Sanchez. “It would be great to work with Tom (Cangemi)
again, or to work with a new producer and collaborator. I feel confident about
my songwriting, and about taking my artist career to a new level.”
